Who We’re Looking For

The Knowledge Roundtable is a young company looking for ambitious tutors who are willing to help us grow. Tutors willing to contribute to the efforts of building reputation and clientele in their local area will start with higher pay than any other tutoring company will offer. See the Payment Structure section below. Tutors wishing to take a more passive approach are also welcome, but will only receive rates comparable to those of other tutoring companies.

The Knowledge Roundtable is different because a) we let tutors set their own rates and b) we offer programs that help tutors find more students and increase their pay. We also actively market each tutor’s profile and provide resources for tutor development.

How To Become A Tutor

We work hard to find the most qualified tutors. To ensure that parents are provided with the highest quality tutoring, we require prospective tutors to apply before being added to our tutor directory.

Tutor’s Responsibilities vs. Ours

As a tutor with The Knowledge Roundtable, you set your own hourly rate and make your own arrangements with students. We provide coaching to tutors, but ultimately it is your responsibility to teach students the material, develop test taking strategies, and facilitate overall student success.

Our responsibilities are to find students for you, process payments, and provide you with the resources necessary to be an effective tutor. We are realistic about our contributions to the overall process in proportion to yours. This is why we have developed a payment structure that helps you, and parents, keep as big a piece of the pie as possible (without us going out of business).

Payment Structure

You have control over your earnings with the hourly rate that you set. However, parents will rarely pay this full rate and you will earn only a (large) portion of that rate. Parents receive discounts by purchasing packages as follows:

  • 5% off for a 5 hour package
  • 10% off for a 10 hour package
  • 15% off for a 20 hour package

Your earnings can be up to 80% of the rate that you set. It is maxed out at 80% so that we can offer parents discounts and ultimately encourage them to stay with you longer. Your take home will start at 60%, with immediate opportunities to raise it to 75% by being proactive (described below). Automatic bonuses also go into effect after you complete a certain number of hours with us (see Automatic Bonuses section).

  • 60% Starting Commission
  • +5% for Social Engagement
  • +5% for Local Engagement
  • +5% for Online Content Creation

Social Engagement

Raise your commission and help us find more students and tutors by engaging with our social media presence. Interact a total of at least 3 times every 3 months on the following social sites (this means you can, for example, Like three of our Facebook posts, or, as another example, Like one post on Facebook, retweet once on Twitter, and share one post on Linkedin):

Local Engagement

To qualify for this bonus, you must do one of the following (contact us before hand for instructions):

  • Maintain a craigslist ad linking to your tutor profile
  • Help us setup local online listings near you
  • Refer a student to us (you only need to do this once to permanently keep the 5% bonus)
  • Post our flyers in your town or school (again, one time will secure the 5% bonus)

Online Content Creation

In all likelihood, you are an expert in something. We want you to share your expertise with all of our students and tutors, and earn a 5% bonus, by doing one of the following every 6 months:

  • Write a blog post on our site
    • Your target audience can be either students or tutors/teachers
  • Create an online exercise for our site (with a detailed solution)
  • Submit a worksheet to be used by others during their tutoring sessions

Automatic Bonuses

If you take advantage of all of these bonuses your rate will already be up to 75%. If you choose not to, you will still automatically receiving commission raises as follows (and again, the max is 80%):

  • +5% after 20 hours
  • +5% after 50 hours
  • +5% after 100 hours
  • +5% after 200 hours

Referral Bonuses

If you refer a student to The Knowledge Roundtable, you’re rate with them will be 85%. If they eventually want to purchase a 20 hour package at a 15% discount, we will cede the student to you completely (and probably ask them for a testimonial about how great you are). If you do not work with them, you will still receive a $50 bonus for the referral (as long as they purchase a package of at least 5 hours).
