Adding Fractions

Many of us think that we don’t need fractions in the “real world” but if you ever want to cook by following a recipe you will need to add lets say 1/3 of butter and 1/2 of milk.

Sample Problem

what is 1/4 + 1/2 equal?

1/2 + 1/4
For example you have 1/2 of a pie and you also have 1/4 of another pie and you’re wanting to put them in the same container.
1/2 is the same as 1/4 + 1/4
the equation is the same as 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4
1/4 +1/4 +1/4 = 3/4

The container will be 3/4 full with the pie in it
