Conjugation -ER vs -IR

Intro

Sometimes students get confused with conjugations since there are three main verb endings in Spanish: -ar, -er, -ir
The -ar verbs seem not to get in the way as much, so at the moment we will focus on -er vs. -ir.

Sample Problem

Comer vivir

These will be our two verbs so that will have one of each.

So, without giving it away and to test your knowledge….
What is the Nosotros form of vivir?

vivimos

vive

veo

vivemos

vivas

Solution

So, the only real difference between the -er and -ir verbs is in the Nosotros form.

Let’s look by using comer and vivir for our examples:

Yo vivo como
Tu vives comes

Ud
El vive come
Ella

Nosotros vivimos comemos

Uds.
Ellos viven comen
Ellas
