Sample Problem

What size resistor R should be connected across the terminal of a 12V battery to produce a current I of 500 mA?


1. Use Ohm’s law of V = IR to solve this problem.

2. Convert I to A from mA. I = 500 mA = 0.5A. Since V = IR, R = V/I = 12V/0.5A = 12 * 2 = 24Ω(ANS)
