Electricity and Magnetism
This is one of the most common concepts that will be tested on your physics exam. Whether it tells you to solve capacitance, resistance, current, or volts, you should know how to use the correct formula for each problem.
What size resistor R should be connected across the terminal of a 12V battery to produce a current I of 500 mA?
1. Use Ohm’s law of V = IR to solve this problem.
2. Convert I to A from mA. I = 500 mA = 0.5A. Since V = IR, R = V/I = 12V/0.5A = 12 * 2 = 24Ω(ANS)
