Math question 1
Intro
Jenny and Jill are best friends and they both have 12 blocks each. Jenny’s blocks are green and Jill’s blocks are yellow.
Sample Problem
How many blocks do they have in total? How many blocks will they have left (in total) if one of them gives away half of their blocks?
Solution
Q: How many blocks do they have in total?
A: They BOTH have 12 blocks, so if one of them has 12 blocks, the other has 12 blocks also. 12 x 2 = 24 or 12 + 12 = 24
A: 24
Q2: How many blocks will they have left (in total) if one of them gives away half of their blocks?
A: Together Jenny and Jill have 24 blocks. They each have 12 blocks. Half of 12 is 6. So if only Jenny gives half of her blocks away, she’ll have 6 left. (12/2=6). Jenny will have 6 blocks left, so add Jenny’s remaining blocks with all of Jill’s blocks.
A: Jenny and Jill will have 18 blocks left. (12 + 6 = 18)
