Intro
What are the rules for Multiplying Real Numbers?
1. Positive x Positive = Positive
2. Negative x Negative = Positive
3. Positive x Negative = Negative
4. Negative x Positive = Negative
These rules apply to all Real Numbers – Whole Numbers; Decimal Numbers; Fractions
Sample Problem
Example #1: Positive x Positive – Multiply: 25 x 6
Example #2: Negative x Negative – Multiply: -25 x (-6)
Example #3: Positive x Negative – Multiply: 25 x (-6)
Example #4: Negative x Positive – Multiply: -25 x 6
Solution
When Multiplying Real Numbers, there are 2 actions:
1. Multiply the numbers.
2. Determine the sign of the answer.
Example #1: Multiply: 25 x 6 = 150
Example #2: Multiply: -25 x (-6) = 150
Example #3: Multiply: 25 x (-6) = -150
Example #4: Multiply: -25 x 6 = -150
