Ratios
Intro
Many problems can be set up as a ratio and becomes very easy to solve.
Sample Problem
If Mary worked 24 hours and received $276.72, how many hours would she need to work to receive $564.97?
Solution
First, set the problem up as a ratio:
24/276.72 = x/564.97
Cross multiply:
24(564.97)= 276.72x
solve for x by dividing both sides by 276.72
x= 49 Mary will need to work 49 hours
