This example is helping first graders how to add. The example will be shown step by step and gives the child a first had look at how to solve an addition problem.

Sample Problem

The problem is 5+3=?


For this you will need a piece of paper and a pencil
Step one: Using your piece of paper draw 5 circles

Step two: put an addition sign after the 5 zeros

00000 +
Step three: draw 3 more circles after the addition sign
00000 + 000
step four: after the 3 circles write an equal sign
00000 + 000 =

Step five: count your circles
00000 + 000 =
12345 678
Step six: write your total zeros after the equal sign
00000 + 000 = 8
So 5 + 3 = 8
