Student unmotivated to read?

Elementary Reading (K-6th) Tutorial

Student unmotivated to read?

This tutorial is a strategy I have learned from colleagues about how to get students more motivated to read.

Sample Problem

Students in a fourth grade reading class are required to read atleast ten minutes each night. Johnny is not completing his nightly reading assignment and hates reading. His parents want to know what they can do.

Johnny’s parents and teachers can suggest books on topics that Johnny is interested in. An example…Johnny loves superheroes. His parents and teachers should help him find grade level and age appropriate texts related to superheroes. Johnny will be reading and it will be a topic that is interesting to him. This should turn his negative motivation into a positive motivation.
