Subtracting Negative Numbers


As most of you will see as you enter Algebra there are many problems that involve subtracting negative numbers. This is not an easy thing to do. Thats why I am here to help!

Sample Problem



1) The first thing you do is identify what is happening.
You are trying to subtract a negative one from a positive eight.

2) The second thing you need to do is look at the signs. In this case you are trying to subtract a negative, and that will make the problem now look like this.

3) The last step is to remove the parenthesis and solve.

8+1=9 Is your answer!
