The Cold War Introduction
The cold war was a period of time in which heightened tensions between the USSR and the US were at an all time high. This occurred after the end of WW2 in which the United States, the USSR, and the United Kingdom previously in an alliance tensions grew among the differences in philosophical ideology between the capitalist democratic nations like France, the UK, and the US against communist nations like the USSR and soon to be North Korea and other nations caused by vicious wars fighting for their ideologies and advantages against the opposing side. To understand the two sides of the cold war we will read a section of the Communist Manifesto and the Constitution of the United States.
After reading both articles we will study the foreign policy of the presidents during the cold war period and analyze how they follow and go against the Constitution. Your assignment will be to write a well organized essay from the Advanced Placement United States History Exam from 2012.
Compare and contrast the Cold War foreign policies of TWO of the following presidents.
Harry Truman (1945–1953)
Dwight Eisenhower (1953–1961)
John Kennedy (1961-1963)
Lyndon Johnson (1963-1969)
Richard Nixon (1969-1974)
Gerald Ford (1974-1977)
Jimmy Carter (1977-1981)
Solution is based upon use of evidence and understanding of the different policies used by the presidents of their choice.
