Social Science, Writing, English Instructor
I am writing this letter of interest in application for a position as a tutor. I recently completed my Master’s degree in geography and, while I plan to eventually pursue an academic career further in the future, I am presently interested in utilizing some of my teaching and academic skills in a position such as this.
While I was a Master’s student at the University of Oregon I worked as an academic tutor for undergraduate student athletes. I tutored college students with their coursework in sociology, geography and anthropology courses. I also spent time tutoring students on study skills and techniques for those that began their undergraduate career less prepared, such as further tutoring students in writing and study techniques. Furthermore, while I was a Master’s student I worked as a teaching assistant. My responsibilities included writing exams with professors and other grad student TAs and professors, grading papers and teaching discussion sections multiple times a week.
Since September, 2016 I have been an adjunct professor at Middlesex Community College, where I have been able to apply the teaching skills I learned in my Master’s program. I hope this background and my prior teaching and tutoring experience is what you are looking for in the tutor(s) you are currently hiring. I look forward to speaking with you about this opportunity in greater detail. Thank you for your time and consideration.
