Hi! I have been a tutor and an elementary teacher for over seven years. Tutoring should be an interactive experience that keeps students engaged while working to meet their goals.
I tutor in all elementary subjects as well as American History. My favorite subject to tutor is math! I know how we teach math today is different than we learned parents, but it makes so much more sense! Students are expected to understand the how and why of numbers, not just memorize facts and algorithms! My teaching philosophy is of the learning pit (google it, I promise it's cool!). At some point, we are all stuck at the bottom of this learning pit because we don't understand the work in front of us. Learning happens and occurs as we try to move ourselves out of the pit. We figure out what is going to work to solve our problem and what does not. Once we take that final step out, we understand the work and are ready for our next pit!
