Math and science are difficult, but with the right help they can be satisfying and--dare I say it?--even fun. Once upon a time, I hated math classes. In my tenth grade algebra class, I had a wonderful teacher who excelled at explaining mathematics in an interesting and exciting way. Ever since then, I’ve loved the field; I even minored in mathematics in college. I believe that there is no single “right” way to tutor a subject, but that an effective tutor always communicates with a pupil to figure out what techniques are working, and which ones are better left out. I’ve learned this lesson over a wide variety of teaching jobs. I’ve worked with first graders on reading and math, I’ve tutored college friends through their physics courses, I’ve even been a teaching assistant for computer science and physics classes at the university level. Learning is a personal experience, and I hope to help guide students through their learning journey with a personalized tutoring style.
