My name is Alia and I am passionate about finding different ways to make difficult concepts understandable for any level and type of learner. I aim to inspire my students to love learning by keeping them actively engaged and encouraging them to ask questions and look to real world applications. I always encourage my students to shoot for academic excellence and I find ways to help them get there!

I currently work with ENROOT Education in Cambridge teaching Math and Science to High School students from refugee and immigrant backgrounds. I love teaching and working with children. I have over 6 years experience tutoring students ranging from elementary through college level in Math, Science, Arabic, and English.

Teaching and learning have always been at my life's core. I completed 2 years of medical school and received the Dean's Scholarship before deciding to pursue a career in education. I finished my pre-medical post-baccalaureate with Summa Cum Laude at Northeastern University. I received my B. A degree with distinction from Mount Holyoke College in Biocultural Epidemiology and Asian Studies and was awarded high honors in the Department of Anthropology for my thesis work. I was named a Mary Lyon Scholar and given a scholarship grant to conduct my anthropological research in Egypt on patient-doctor relationships and improving care in cancer clinics in Cairo and the Rural Delta region. I completed a study abroad year at American University in Cairo where I studied Arabic Language. I graduated from Dana Hall High School in Wellesley and spent a year at Casablanca American School in Morocco pursuing study of Arabic and French languages.

I am a patient and understanding tutor dedicated towards making learning both fun and interactive for my students. I strive to break down difficult concepts and use learning approaches that suit the different learning styles and needs of my students.

I have had the privilege of helping students from many different learning backgrounds to grow and feel connected to Science. Subject matter in fields like Chemistry, Biology, and Physics can often seem abstract and complicated. In my many years spent studying these subjects at both basic and advanced levels I know that understanding concepts and being able to see how each unique detail pieces together to form a bigger picture is key. Many of my students have had success in these areas when I have introduced the use of graphic aids, models, and interactive activities and experiments in addition to their textbooks and homework sheets. I am willing to go the extra mile to make sure that my students truly grasp, understand, and retain information that they have struggled with by preparing extra practice problems and by remaining accessible to answer any of their questions that might arise during the learning process.
