As a writer and journalist, my mission is to share knowledge. I tutored elementary school students in all subjects for three years from 2013-2016, and I have extensive experience tutoring individual high school students in the ACT, SAT, mathematics, and writing. I myself received a perfect score of 36 on the ACT and, cumulatively, a near-perfect score of 2380 on the SAT.
As a researcher at Rice University, I am working to build a comprehensive public history project to share information about the historical impact of a short-lived red light district in Houston’s Freedmantown on the racial distribution of wealth in Houston. The final products will include a website, a centralized historical database, and, likely, a series of museum exhibitions. The African American Library at the Gregory School, a branch of the Houston Public Library, has agreed to become a partner in the project, and it has received a grant from the Mellon Foundation. Ultimately, I hope that this website will be a valuable resource for classrooms of all levels across the country, and will help students learn in a fun and engaging way about real estate practices, demographics, and other important indicators in the early 1900s in major cities.
