18+ Years Teaching English Language Arts
I have taught English language arts for 18 years at the college level. I specialize in composition/rhetoric and can help any writer gain confidence and skill. I directed the Writing Center at my college for seven years and learned a great deal about tutoring techniques. I also oversaw ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) programming for 15 years, working closely with international students from many countries and linguistic backgrounds. I enjoy helping people who are learning the English language – reading, writing and speaking – become more proficient and assisting high school seniors with their college applications.
I love to work one-on-one with learners and feel this is a powerful way to improve scores and ability. I am able to work with basic writers, reluctant writers, ESL readers and writers, and even "good" writers who feel they need to get to that next level. Whether a student wants to focus on grammar, paper organization, research methods and proper citation or literary analysis, I am ready and eager to help.
I hold a MA in the Teaching of English and also a certificate in TEFL. I spent 18 years in the college classroom helping students become more critical readers, thinkers and writers. I love to work on all aspects of the writing process, from inception of ideas to final proofreading.
If you or your child is struggling in English class or with ESL-related issues, please contact me! Let's talk about your needs and goals and how I might be able to assist. My tutoring rate varies from $40.00 to $50.00 depending on how far I must commute for the session.
