Working as a tutor for over four years, I have a wealth of experience tutoring sessions whether one-on-one, in small groups, or within classrooms. As Ithaca College's Head Tutor of Physics, I worked with a variety of students from a number of different majors, communicating with them singularly so to assure that we could structure sessions together, as a means of achieving their best interests. In preparation for sessions, I would prepare materials for test reviews, or for singular study sessions, such that students had material to practice with if they had no more questions. Under this title, I also was the tutoring manager for the department, training all other physics tutors under best practices. While at Ithaca College, I also worked as a Teaching Assistant across all introductory physics courses – Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, and Electronics – working in classroom with students and the professor, facilitating lessons and aiding students in the introduction of laboratory materials.
Between my junior and senior year of college, I was a Teaching Assistant for Johns Hopkin's Center for Talented Youth, a summer teaching program for exemplary teenage scholars. Working at both Franklin & Marshall College and Dickinson College, I was a teaching assistant for the Fast Paced High School Physics course and the Electrical Engineering course. Here, I worked with the teacher and the students in running lab sessions, teaching lessons, and moderating and constructing the lessons plans that met at night.
During my time tutoring, a worked with a diverse amount of students, whether studying physics, mathematics, physical therapy, occupational therapy, chemistry, biology, writing, etc. I also have experience working with students where that are non-native English speakers, as well as students with learning disabilities, whether Asperger syndrome, autism, and dyslexia.
Having graduated from Ithaca College with Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Physics along with a minor in mathematics, writing a thesis my senior year on cumulative research, as well as acting as the college's Head Tutor and Head Teaching Assistant, I believe that I have proven my proficiency in understanding, contextualizing, and explaining the subject matter to both myself and others.
