Based on my experience as a student, my triumphs and my tribulations, I believe I can adequately provide for any struggling student. I'm patient, considerate, and understanding, traits I feel are crucial to building a positive rapport with the students I work with. Schoolwork can be confusing- I'm as guilty as any other student is at getting frustrated at a seemingly impossible assignment- but with a level-headed and determined tutor, there is a lot to be achieved! Furthermore, I spent my sophomore year tutoring other college students for the writing courses at my school. These included research, expository, and creative writing, as well as writing for ESL students. I believe my prior tutoring experience will make it easier for me to adapt to the habits of future students. By habits I mean their receptivity to my guidance (i.e. if they seem to be applying the techniques being presented to them vs. if they just seem to be looking for step-by-step instructions) and their commitment to the tutoring sessions (i.e. are they self-driven or do they need some extra goading?) Every student is different, and I think being versatile enough to cooperate with the habits of differing students is what would make me a great tutpring candidate for any individual.
