Writing Consultant, Test-taking Instructor, AP Exam Help, Reading And Math Help
I am a recent university graduate based in Torrington, CT. I have diverse teaching experience, from language tutoring with refugees in Rome to after-school supplemental reading and math homework help with elementary-aged homeless students in NYC. I have a liberal arts degree (in politics and social justice) and I am comfortable tutoring students of any age: elementary, intermediary, high school and AP, college, or adults going back to school for the first time.
I believe that all people take in and retain new information differently. There are many different ways to learn. As a tutor it's important to me that a student's preferences and needs are accommodated for– the point of tutoring, after all, is to get in some extra help in the gaps left after school. I'm flexible and open to adjusting my tutoring style for every type of learner.
I also believe that there are few things as necessary to academic success as the ability to communicate clearly through writing. I will read, edit, and help reconstruct essays and papers with the aim of helping students become stronger writers. A well-written essay and a firm grasp of language is often the key to doing well on English and history AP exams, SAT writing sections, and college applications.
My hours are flexible and my rates are negotiable. Parents of younger children may also want to know that I am first-aid and CPR certified, and willing to accommodate (work with, not just work around) learning disabilities and special needs. I look forward to working with you!
