I am an educator by heart and soul, and have worked in academia my entire career, helping people with their writing and communications skills. In addition, I have taught history, philosophy, and sociology for the past 20 years.
As a professional editor working in education, my goal is to help people express their ideas in concise and effective ways. These are essential skills in all facets of life. Often, students and clients feel very intimidated by the idea of having to do everything the "right way." When I tutor individuals, I ask them them tell me, both aloud and in writing, what they hope to achieve. Then I ask them to tell me what barriers they think seem to stand in their way.
Writing is not difficult once you know what you want to say. Then we can practice, together, how many ways there are to say it. This is true of all liberal arts topics, including history, writing, English, and the social sciences.
