I entered this position as a high school sophomore with few interpersonal skills. Following a brief course I was assisting students in the writing center. The sessions were more about coaxing the writing from the person than technical requirements early on and would provide much of the bedrock of my interpersonal experience.It was as my mentor in that role, Mrs. Hinman, said, “to be a someone that they could trust and share with.”The sheer variety of people that visited the writing center was instrumental in my growth as a person. From wealthy exchange students to locals getting back on their feet students poured in sometimes as many as 15 a day sharing their personal stories and fears of the academic process. I had to earn their trust to help them along selling the process of learning to some while reminding others of what they already knew.

From moments with young single parents, to the recently bereaved, to the newly to returned to society, I learned how to make people comfortable with an intimidating process.
Successfully provided computer and other technical assistance.
Received consistent praise during three teacher observed sessions.
Promotion to Senior Tutor from volunteer peer tutor.
Received positive feedback from a number of students.
Helped keep the less committed students from using clocked in credited time for non educational purposes.
Left on good terms to pursue additional educating experience with volunteer work.
