Specializing In Math (at Or Below Undergraduate Level)
I am currently a math tutor at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, where I am a senior mathematics major with a music minor. At Concordia, I have been employed as a math tutor for the past two years, tutoring several mathematics courses including Calculus and an introductory-level math course. I grew my skills as a tutor through both of these experiences; tutoring Calculus allowed me to help students understand a subject I love, while tutoring the introductory math course was interesting in that I had never taken the class before, so I was learning the material alongside my students. The fact that I was able to do this and help my students succeed testifies to my flexibility as both a student and teacher.
In addition to my time tutoring at Concordia, I have had previous experience tutoring throughout my education, both formally and informally. I thoroughly enjoy helping people understand mathematics, so that they can answer the questions "how" and "why" something works rather than only memorizing the specific steps to a solution. While knowing how to solve a problem is important, I believe in learning the fundamentals of how math works so that, when confronted with an unfamiliar problem, students can break it down into familiar parts and derive a method of solution on their own.

Laura has been very helpful with my sophomore in Geometry. She teaches her step by step the fundamentals of math and enjoys spending as much time as need to help her understand. I would recommend Laura.
