TEFL, English Comp, Academics, & The Performing Arts

Teaching is my life. I have taught children in both the public and private sectors, and have been an innovator in adult education.

My journey began with my credential as a cum laude graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Education several decades ago. This degree qualifies me to teach all subjects in the classroom and as a tutor. During my period of training as a teacher, it was emphasized that the best teacher seeks to motivate each and every student to do the best work, and be the best person they can be. It has been the premise of all of my work.

Early in my teaching career, I became well-known for my extraordinary creativity, student communication, and community involvement while teaching classroom music (K-6), as I developed a program of full-scale musical/theatrical/dance productions in communities where children had never even seen a theatrical performance. Students who had been unsuccessful in the classroom, blossomed on the stage… and suddenly found themselves mastering their classroom work, as well.

Following the birth of my first child, I was called to change the experience of childbirth for women through innovating and developing an entirely new system of childbirth education based upon the Socratic method of education. These classes came to be the basis of much of the modern systems of health education in this country. Following the publication of my book, I became a public speaker and presenter throughout the English-speaking world.

Following a short trip to Costa Rica to study herbology with a native healer, I found myself living there, totally immersed in the culture and language of the Ticos (the name the Costa Ricans call themselves). I saw the crying need of the people to learn English, in order to climb out of a system which forever keeps them dependent and poor. I returned to the States, and attended the Boston Language Institute where I gained my international certificate in TEFL (TESL).

Most recently, I worked for HeadStart teaching children of Hispanic families, translating, and teaching their families English.

I am excited to know that I can be of assistance here in Billings as a totor for TEFL, English Composition, other academics, and even the performing arts. I look forward to meeting with you.

During our initial consultation we will assess strengths, goals, and learning styles, to develop the best education plan for your needs. Our work will be designed for you, and the pace will follow your mastery of each step along the way. The work that we do together will be the guideposts of creating specific outside assignments that further develop your mastery. With frequent re-assessments of progress, new learning plans will be created. Thus, our work together will always be fresh, and never stagnant or pre-supposed.
