Every person is unique and so is the way to learn to read. This is a skill that opens up the world and imagination. Babysitting at a young age I would help by reading the stories and having the child participate. In high school a teacher told a 3rd grader since he couldn't read he had to sit in the hall. I helped to get the boy to read and back in for reading hour. I found what he liked and adjusted the help that way.
