I have taught special education for 35 years and am certified in special education and English. After graduating from UMass Amherst with a degree in English, I taught at the Landmark School, where I learned how to help dyslexic students learn how to read. I earned an M.A. degree in Counseling from Boston College and then worked in hospital settings for several years before working at Hesser College as the Director of the Learning Center. Since then, I have taught special education in public high schools: Mascenic, Conval and Nashua, teaching Engligh, Math, Social Studies and Transition Skills. As sidelines, I have worked to develop internships and experiential learning opportunities; evaluated Homeschooling Portfolios, and taught Human Development and Educational Psychology in graduate programs at Franklin Pierce University and New England College. I also maintain a small counseling practice and teach yoga. I am skilled in working with math anxiety, dyslexia, dyscalcula, and reading comprehension issues and can coach students on study skills, SAT prep and college application essays. Teaching writing, editing and proofreading is also a specialty. My final degree was an Ed.D. in Leadership in Education - I focused on experiential education.
