As an aspiring journalist, I often say that I think in stories and see in photographs. From a young age I was captivated by the power of words, a love affair that led me to pursue a degree in journalism during my college years. Having attended prep school for high school I was forced to confront writing at a college-level at the age of 14. Entering into college I was astounded by the level of writing that most of my peers were operating with. Since writing is my passion and I have recent experience as a college and high school level student I understand the demands of both levels first-hand. My passion for writing will allow me to connect one on one with my students to foster a positive and fun environment, all while learning!
I have extensive experience with analytical essays for English and History classes, up to the undergraduate level. In addition, I have specific expertise with writing journalistic articles for print and audio- magazines, news, etc. I have expertise in research and citations across disciplines. Within my specific undergraduate major, many of my classes were hands on, providing me with opportunities to participate in two internships at local newspapers, one which was located in Florence, Italy, where I studied abroad. Peer editing is a component of the writing process that I find to be particularly necessary. Reading articles and essays aloud and gaining the perspective of another person fosters a writing process that is not only helpful to the growth of the student but contributes to a dialogue in which students and teachers can think out their ideas through one-on-one communication.
