I have been a high school English teacher for 14 years, teaching at both private and public high schools (I am certified in both Maine & New Hampshire to teach grades 7-12), and I love working with children, teenagers, and adults. I have taught a wide range of literature and writing courses; helping students with their writing is so rewarding to me. At Skidmore College, I was an English major and a visual arts minor. I love photography and I see this visual art as similar to the process of writing poems and stories. I am a published poet and a lover of creative writing in general. I earned my MFA in Creating Writing at the Warren Wilson MFA Program for Writers in North Carolina. One of the most gratifying parts of teaching for me is working with students individually to help them gain confidence and become better writers. I run a reading series (fiction & poetry readings) in my barn and I also run creative writing workshops there. I have helped many students write their college essays. I challenge my students to ignore the voice in their head that says they can't do something and in particular, the voice that says "I don't like to write" or "I'm not a good writer." So often that voice is incorrect. Writing is not easy, but it can be so much fun and with practice, one CAN improve. I look forward to hearing from you!
