English Literature, College Essays & Diverse Learners
Hello! My name is Sarah, and I'm thrilled that you're reading my profile. I'm a licensed English teacher in the state of MN and MA, and I can't wait to support you with your writing needs! My specialties are College Essay and English literature support.
I completed both my undergraduate (B.A. in English and Secondary Ed.) and graduate (M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction) degrees at Boston College. I taught high school English in Boston for three years before moving back to Minneapolis, where I grew up. I've been tutoring since I moved back to the Minneapolis area. I'm a Blake alum myself, but I've worked with students from a wide array of schools (Blake, Breck, Benilde, Minnetonka, Wayzata, Hopkins, to name a few).
I'm comfortable working with "high flyer" students who are adept writers (like AP students) and looking to take their writing to the next level as well as students who struggle with writing and might prefer other subjects. I'm also very experienced working with students who have learning differences (ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, anxiety, processing disorders etc.).
One of the most important skills is expressing your authentic self (opinions, ideas, identity) through words. I love working with students on their writing–whether it be a college application essay, literary essay or something else entirely! I'm here to help you elevate and refine your writing by teaching you the skills you need to be independent.
My hope is to work with you and teach you the skills you need, so eventually you won't even need me as a tutor anymore. To me, that is the sign of great success! While this takes time, it is the ultimate goal : )
