Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Social Sciences, Spanish
Hi! I'm Abby and I am a junior at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania. I am fluent in Spanish and am proficient up to the Intermediate High level (rated by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) which makes me eligible to teach Spanish. I have taken Latin I, II, and III which helps to understand SAT vocab, as well as a Kaplan SAT prep course. I have taken upper-level high school math courses such as Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and AP Statistics as well as a statistics class for the behavioral sciences in college. I am a Psychology major and have a strong grasp on most basic psychological concepts, as well as a detailed knowledge of mental disorders included in the DSM and the fields of behavioral, cultural, social, and cognitive psychology. I am very interested in the social sciences on top of Psychology and I have an extensive knowledge of sociology, anthropology, and criminology. As for sciences, I have taken Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Forensic Science at the high school level. My strongest academic area (for tutoring purposes) would be writing. I love to write and it has always come very naturally to me. I was a writing tutor in the Reading & Writing Center of my high school and still enjoy editing and critiquing all kinds of pieces of writing. I will most likely be a Writing Associate in our writing lab on campus and tutor at the collegiate level at some point in the next year.
As for non-academic teaching qualifications, I was trained and certified as a Leadership Trainer through the Student Leadership Training Program where, as a high-schooler, I prepared and taught lessons on leadership strategies and qualities to adult mentors and teachers as well as college, high school and middle school students at a variety of camps and day conferences. At this program I was able to teach in a classroom or lecture hall environment as well as teaching in a more relaxed setting such as coordinating plays or ice-breaker exercises. I love being able to reach a child who I am teaching and see their face light up when they really grasp the concept.
I am very flexible and will strive to make myself available whenever is most convenient for my students. I am home from college in Connecticut from mid-May until the last week of August and return for a month from December to January. The rest of the year I am located in Easton, PA. I look forward to working with you :)
